Build a world-class LDAR program

Oil and gas companies must develop fugitive emissions programs to meet environmental targets and to avoid regulatory violations and fines.

A new course - Detecting and reducing fugitive emissions, will help learners build a world-class Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program that will help meet environmental goals while saving time and money.

Course developer Gobind Khiani, president at GAPV Inc., said learners will understand how to select equipment with specifications that meet or exceed the required emission limits. For example, attendees will learn how to find and repair leaks in from plant equipment including valves and flanges and address emissions with techniques like Drill and Tap.

“There are always issues with installation and maintenance. Troubleshooting these issues are not learnt in a book always,” said Khaini. “You learn from experience. I would like to share this and make sure that every minute spent of the participants’ time is well paid for in terms of the knowledge they will learn.”

Learners will gain knowledge on how to read and write internal corporate technical standards, review design on emission reduction requirements, and provide value-engineering solutions tailored to individual plants, facilities, pipelines, tank farms or compressor station networks.

The course is designed for upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, engineering professionals and other technical specialists looking for a generalized outline of emissions testing, standards, equipment, and related topics. However, Khaini said everybody, from those working in the field, in operation and engineering teams to the office level management, should have a basic understanding of detecting and reducing emissions.

“Different emissions management (detection and reduction) methods are easy to mention and put on a piece of paper but it is crucial to get personnel trained to understand and apply them to achieve reliable results,” said Khiani.
