For the past 27 years the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) has raised more than $17 million for the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) through its annual PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala fundraiser.
In 2021 the global pandemic gave PSAC the opportunity to reimagine the fundraising campaign to three separate events. In January the first event was held, the Safe@Home Gala, raising $450,000 and last week PSAC announced its second event, a 50/50 raffle. The lottery has a guaranteed cash prize of $200,000 with a jackpot value up to $1 million. The draw will take place at the third and final virtual fundraiser event, the Industry Live Auction on Thursday, June 10. Purchase tickets at https://starsandspursgala.ca/50-50-lottery/
PSAC would like to thank the Maple Leaf sponsors for their support of the PSAC STARS & Spurs Safe@Home Gala held earlier this year:
Essential Energy Services
Essential Energy Services recognizes the vital importance of STARS rescue service to both our industry and the residents of Western Canada. STARS provides access to critical medical care where and when it is needed. We have been a proud supporter of the PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala for over a decade and are thrilled PSAC was able to reimagine the Gala into a three-part campaign in 2021.
Essential operates as Essential Coil Well Service, which provides completion, stimulation and work-over services with its fleet of coil tubing rigs, fluid and nitrogen pumpers, and Tryton Tool Services, which provides a wide range of downhole tools and rentals for completion, production, and wellsite restoration. Our operations are primarily located across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and often involve work in remote locations.
Safety is the foundation of Essential’s vision and mission - for our employees, customers, and community stakeholders. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of the Canadian energy industry continuing to operate safely, and the importance of the medical services of STARS. For this reason, Essential is particularly proud to be a sponsor of the 2021 PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala.
Halliburton continues to be a proud supporter of the PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala. Operating in Canada for 95 years, Halliburton has watched STARS grow its essential medical services across Western Canada over the past three decades. Halliburton and STARS share common core values and a collective focus on safety.
“Safety is our highest priority and integral to our Halliburton culture," said John Gorman, Halliburton vice-president Canada/West Coast USA." Our goal is zero, meaning we aim to get our employees home safely every day. Supporting STARS and its mission of "every life is worth fighting for" resonates with Halliburton, and we thank those on the frontline who work on behalf of STARS for being our hero in the sky.”
Halliburton focuses on four key pillars of Giving – education, environment, health and safety, and community engagement. Giving Choices, an annual Halliburton campaign, invites employees to support qualified charities and non-profit organizations with donations and volunteering. Since 2005, Halliburton employees have donated nearly $41 million to support over 1,500 charities worldwide, including STARS Foundation — a record of giving that is emblematic of our commitment to strengthen communities around the world.
Throughout the last year there have been some significant changes to our business and the world we work and live in. Still, Halliburton remains committed to working with our communities and looks forward to supporting STARS and riding along on every mission.

There is nothing more important to our community today than supporting the safety and security of our colleagues, peers, neighbors, and families. For the seventh straight year, NCS Multistage is a proud sponsor of the PSAC STARS and Spurs Campaign. Since its inception 27 years ago, these campaigns have raised over $17 million dollars in support of the life-saving vision and mission of the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS).
In alignment with our commitment to health and safety, NCS Multistage wholeheartedly supports the STARS mission – that where you live, work, play, or travel should not impact your chance of survival in the event of an accident. Whether our employees are working remotely or are spending their leisure time enjoying Alberta’s mountain playgrounds, they know the STARS team is pushing the boundaries of innovation to keep our community safe. Our employees therefore have a unique and deep appreciation for the services STAR offers.

Nexus Energy Technologies
Nexus Energy Technologies has been a proud supporter of the PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala for the last six years. At our core, we value the safety of our community and industry members. Both personally and professionally, we have witnessed the impact that STARS has made within our community. While this has been a difficult and trying year for many, STARS is an integral service, and we are proud to be able to provide our support for such a worthwhile cause.
At Nexus, we strive to provide the highest quality manufacturing, servicing, and rentals of coiled tubing pressure control equipment. The importance of safety for our employees, customers and environment is of utmost importance and is built into our systems, procedures, and products.
In a year full of change, working safely remains a way of life at Pembina and is top of mind in everything we do. Our strict focus on safe and reliable operations is integral to the health and safety of the communities in which we operate. This commitment to safety is not only as an operator but as a member of the community. We recognize the tremendously important role that first responders play in providing essential care for our communities and we’re committed to supporting organizations like STARS that help improve access to emergency care for everyone.
Pembina is proud to align with the PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala for their annual gala again this year. The event is an important fundraiser ensuring STARS can continue to provide timely critical care that is particularly important in more remote, rural communities where we live and operate. The last year has been challenging for all Canadians but, especially during times of uncertainty, we’re dedicated to coming together with our industry peers to support STARS when they need it most.
Pembina Pipeline Corporation (Pembina) is a leading energy transportation and midstream service provider that has been serving North America's energy industry for more than 65 years.
As one of the largest natural gas resource owners in Canada, PETRONAS Energy Canada Ltd (PETRONAS Canada) responsibly explores for and produces natural gas as a reliable source of energy from its operations in the Montney area of northeast B.C.
PETRONAS Canada prides itself on the commitment it takes to ensuring safety, environmental and social considerations are incorporated and maintained throughout its operations. One example of PETRONAS Canada’s commitment to safety is its ongoing support for STARS Air Ambulance.
“For the past 16 years, we’ve been a passionate champion of the life-saving work performed by the STARS organization as ardent supporters of their Mission Operations,” says Mark Fitzgerald, president and CEO, PETRONAS Canada and STARS board member. “When STARS sought to enhance their fleet, allowing them to better serve the communities in B.C. where our staff live and work, our decision to participate was one we easily got behind.”
In 2020, PETRONAS Canada made a $2 million commitment to STARS’ Fleet Renewal Program. Today, whether it’s a severe industry incident, recreational accident or sudden health trauma, those who live in and around Fort St. John, Pink Mountain and Hudson’s Hope, can rely on the critical, life-saving services provided by STARS.

Our core values, safety, trust, execution and possibilities, serve as guiding principles in our business and throughout the last 10 years of operation, we have aligned ourselves with organizations that do the same.
STARS Air Ambulance is critical to our energy sector. To date, STEP has donated approximately $500 thousand to STARS and the annual STARS & Spurs Gala. This year’s event may look a little different, but it is no less important to participate in the creative, physically distanced activities and raise funds for this vital service.
Please join STEP Energy Services and other industry leaders in supporting this great cause, register for the online events and donate to STARS.
The Stream-Flo Group of Companies is a proud and long-standing sponsor of the PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala event. While much has changed over the past year, we remain unwavering in our commitment to supporting the vital life-saving work carried out by STARS and will continue to do in the future.
As a company with operations in remote or isolated areas, the peace of mind afforded by STARS is invaluable. Knowing they are only a call away when lives are on the line is something our employees and we never take for granted. The important role they play in providing the Indigenous communities of western Canada with health-care services cannot be underestimated either.
It is with respect to that last part that we have commissioned a totem pole for this year’s auction as part of our West Totem Collab fundraising initiative. Benefitting STARS, Community Futures Treaty Seven, and the Squamish Nation, the West Totem Collab is bridging communities together and making the places we work in better.
Part of the inspiration for the totem pole being auctioned off is drawn from our Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Duncan McNeill. He purchased a totem pole at a STARS event in 1996 and the one we have commissioned from master carver Ray Natraoro also serves to honour his legacy.
We would like to thank all the STARS team members who have helped so much with the West Totem Collab, as well as all the volunteers who make STARS & Spurs possible.
