There are only two oilsands players in the Canadian Mining Journal’s latest annual Top 40 ranking of companies by gross revenue, but they are both very near the top.
Suncor Energy and Canadian Natural Resources are ranked numbers three and four, respectively, for 2018, with both companies moving up in the new listing compared to last year.
Suncor had oilsands revenue of $12.039 billion in 2018, up from $11.190 billion in 2017 (when it ranked fourth), in part thanks to the contribution of its new Fort Hills mine.
Canadian Natural, on the other hand, had 2018 revenue of $11.521 billion, up from $7.072 billion in 2017 (when it ranked fifth), with the increase in part due to a full year of operations at its majority-owned Athabasca Oil Sands Project.
