Mikisew Group of Companies and Sodexo Canada have changed the name of their oilsands joint venture in a bid to gain visibility in the Wood Buffalo region.

The two companies have been operating Birch River Site Services for more than seven years, with clients including Canadian Natural Resources and Suncor Energy’s Mount Logan Lodge.

Their new joint venture, owned 51 percent by Mikisew Group (owned by the Mikisew Cree First Nation) and 49 percent by Sodexo, will continue to serve these clients and others as the Mikisew Sodexo Limited Partnership.

It’s “a strong example of how like-minded organizations can join forces for a common business purpose," JP Gladu, CEO of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, said in a statement.

"Joint ventures between Indigenous companies and the private sector are ideal because they build on the strengths and values that each bring to the table."
