AltaGas will soon have not just a new CEO; it will have a new chairman of the board as well.

David Cornhill, who founded AltaGas 25 years ago, is stepping down from his current position as chair, the company announced on Thursday.

In November 2018 AltaGas named Randy Crawford, a former executive with U.S.-based EQT Corporation, as its new CEO. This followed the sudden departure of former AltaGas CEO David Harris in July.

In a statement, Cornhill said that “After being completely dedicated to the development and growth of AltaGas for the past 25 years, I have decided to make time to pursue other interests and opportunities. With Randy Crawford, our new president and CEO being well-established, I felt this also affords AltaGas the opportunity to appoint a new chair of the board.”

Pentti Karkkainen will take over as AltaGas chair effective Apr. 2. Karkkainen co-foundee KERN Partners, an energy-focused Canadian capital markets and private equity firm.

Cornhill will remain on the board if directors in order to ensuring an orderly transition and continuity, AltGas said.
