Canada Action and Rally 4 Resources have officially cancelled their planned truck convoy to Ottawa to call attention to the crisis facing the oil and gas industry.

The groups made the announcement on Monday afternoon via their GoFundMe page.

“We would like to recognize the overwhelming support and courage that so many Canadians from coast to coast have expressed in their desire to participate in the Resource Coalition Convoy to Ottawa,” they said.

“This event was planned in response to the overwhelming momentum that’s been building from our resource rallies. Unfortunately, we have come to the decision that it is no longer viable to proceed with our planned convoy. We cannot confidently mitigate the unexpected challenges associated with this event.”

Canada Action founder Cody Battershill told JWN that “Unfortunately there were some unexpected complications and issues, and we are making the best decision at this time in the interest of our supporters of volunteers and for all of those that were interested in coming on the convoy.”

Rally 4 Resources and Canada Action have been working to distance their convoy from another convoy being organized for the same week in February by groups that associate with the Yellow Vest movement.

Refunds will be issued to all donors who have supported the Rally 4 Resources/Canada Action convoy, they said. As of Monday afternoon their GoFundMe was at $43,240 of its $250,000 funding goal.
