The Suncor Energy executive who until early this year was responsible for the successful delivery of the new Fort Hills mine has joined Horizon North Logistics.

Mark Becker will be the company’s president of industrial services, which Horizon North CEO said has reached a “critical inflection point.” The segment provides workforce accommodations, relocatable structures and services including camps, transportation, utilities and matting.

Becker joined Suncor in 2000. In 2006 he was named vice-president, major projects and then vice-president of operations in 2009 before becoming vice-president, oilsands ventures, Fort Hills in 2012. The $15-billion new oilsands mine officially went into operations in January 2018.

For the last eight months Becker has worked as senior advisor, Atlantic offshore development with Husky Energy.

Horizon North has also promoted Joseph Kiss to president, modular solutions.

Kiss joined the company in 2016 and has led strategic and technical shifts across its modular solutions business line, the company said. In his new role, Kiss will be focused on further growth into new geographic markets and diversity of product applications.

Horizon North closed a $50 million equity financing in July that is earmarked approximately half to pay down debt and half to take advantage of opportunities associated with new LNG projects in Western Canada.
