Suncor Energy chief operating officer Mark Little will co-chair the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB)’s new Aboriginal Procurement Campaign.
It’s part of a new strategy CCAB has been developing in recent months to highlight the opportunities and value of Aboriginal procurement relationships.
As part of this strategy, CCAB says it is recruiting business leaders to serve as Aboriginal Procurement Champions. It will create Canada’s largest directory of Certified Aboriginal Businesses, which are independently certified as at least 51 percent Aboriginal owned and controlled.
Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal companies will also be able to exchange information about procurement opportunities via a new Aboriginal Procurement Marketplace.
Last year CCAB certified Suncor at gold-level in its Progressive Aboriginal Relations program. In 2016, Suncor spent $445 million with Aboriginal businesses, bringing the total spend to almost $3.9 billion since 1999.
