Here is a list of human resources highlights as appeared in the Daily Oil Bulletin for the week ending Sept. 8, 2017:
Secure announces management changes
Allen Gransch has been appointed executive vice-president of corporate development for Secure Energy Services Inc., with Chad Magus replacing him as executive vice-president and chief financial officer.
Other executive team changes include Corey Higham, executive VP of midstream, transitioning to executive VP of processing, recovery and disposal. Dave Engel, executive VP of processing recovery and disposal, will be executive VP of technical services, while Dan Steinke, executive VP of corporate development will be executive VP of new ventures and government affairs.
Mike Mikuska will also join Secure’s executive team as executive VP of commercial and transportation.
Considerations for Alberta’s OHS review
The Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) believes that a review of the province’s health and safety legislation is necessary, as the current act is full of “token language” that does not amount to meaningful, enforceable protections for workers, especially when compared to other provinces.
Last month, the Alberta government launched a review of the province’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act to clarify employer and worker responsibilities, improve worker engagement and maintain a strong focus on illness and injury prevention. The AFL argues that Alberta’s OHS Act leaves workers more vulnerable than does legislation in other provinces, with elementary safety provisions framed as suggestions rather than enforceable rules.
For its part, Enform sees a need for changes to Alberta’s OHS system when it comes to employee rights. For example, current legislation does not spell out a worker’s right to refuse unsafe work in Alberta, which OHS legislation in other provinces and federally actually does.
Strategic announces management changes
Strategic Oil & Gas Ltd.’s current chief operating officer, Cody Smith, has been appointed interim chief executive officer.
Smith is replacing Gurpreet Sawhney, who has resigned as Strategic’s president and CEO on order to pursue other opportunities.
