Suncor Energy has appointed Mark Little, currently its president, upstream, as chief operating officer.

Little will be responsible for all of the operations and many of the corporate services of the company, Suncor says, adding that the appointment "comes on the eve of first oil" from its Fort Hills oilsands mine and "reflects the continuing focus to capture value from the increased integration of Suncor operations."

Little, who joined Suncor in 2008, led the integration between the company and Petro-Canada following their merger in 2009.

Suncor says that for several years Little has been leading its upstream organization including mining, in situ oilsands, conventional exploration and production worldwide, as well as Syncrude where he is chair of the board of directors.
