Husky Energy says it has made a new oil discovery offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, located about 10 kilometres away from its SeaRose production, storage and offloading vessel.
The White Rose A-24 exploration well was drilled in the second quarter of 2018 and encountered more than 85 metres of oil-bearing sandstone, the company said on Friday.
Husky shares ownership interest in the well with Suncor Energy and Nalcor Energy Oil and Gas.
These same partners are currently building the 75,000 bbl/d West White Rose project, a fixed wellhead platform that will be tied back to the SeaRose vessel. Production is expected to begin in 2022.
The new discovery continues to be evaluated, Husky said.
