Industry vets Kvisle and MacPhail named to Cenovus board: This week’s people news

Here is a list of human resources highlights as appeared in the Daily Oil Bulletin for the week ending March 9, 2018:

Luc Jobin out as CN Rail CEO

Luc Jobin has left Canadian National Railway Company, and Jean-Jacques Ruest is the interim president and chief executive officer until there is a permanent replacement.

The board says CN must respond with speed and innovation to retail its leadership position, given an increasingly-competitive marketplace. Ruest has been with the company for 22 years, the last eight as executive vice-president and chief marketing officer. An international search for a new CEO is now underway.

Ensign retirement

Ed Kautz, president of United States operations at Ensign Energy Services Inc., will retire on July 1 after nearly 25 years with the company.

Mike Nuss, executive vice-president, U.S. and Latin America, will assume responsibility for all U.S. operations in addition to Latin and South America.

Calima adds to Canadian team

Calima Energy Limited of Australia appointed two senior oil and gas executives to its Canadian in-country management team pursuant to the operating agreement with CWL Energy.

Mike Dobovich has been appointed country manager. He has more than 20 years of experience across the energy value chain. Most recently, he was a member of Statoil Canada’s senior leadership team as the head of safety and sustainability. Prior to this appointment, he was the manager of land, regulatory and community affairs.

Aaron Bauer has been appointed operations manager. He is an engineer with more than 15 years of drilling and completions experience in the Montney and other resource plays in Canada. He has worked for large companies such as Caltex and Burlington Resources. At West Valley Energy, he was vice-president of operations.

Kvisle, MacPhail nominated to Cenovus board

Industry veterans Hal Kvisle and Keith MacPhail will join Cenovus Energy Inc.’s board of directors at the company’s next annual general meeting of shareholders on April 25.

Kvisle has spent more than four decades working in Canada’s oil and natural gas sector, with experience running upstream production, power and pipeline businesses. MacPhail has 30-plus years of experience managing upstream production companies.

Ian Delaney, who has served as a board member since Cenovus’s 2009 inception, will retire as a director at the conclusion of the company’s upcoming AGM.

Executive resignation at Kelt

Ashley Hohm, vice-president, finance, has advised Kelt Exploration Ltd. of her intentions to resign from her position, effective April 17.

Hohm will help the company’s transition to her absence prior to her departure. Kelt has started a search for Hohm’s replacement through an executive search firm.

O’Brien to chair AER Board

A business advisor and corporate director has been appointed chair of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) board of directors, effective from April 1 to Sept. 30 of this year.

Sheila O’Brien, who will replace Gerry Protti as chair, also has been reappointed to a further term on the AER board to expire Oct. 17, 2022. O’Brien has 35 years of experience in the oil, gas, pipeline, and petrochemical sectors in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
