Forget your safety tickets? There’s an app for that

Braydon Gough learned the hard way that to work in the oilfield you have to have your papers in order.

As a young swamper working on a vacuum truck he forgot his safety tickets when going to work one day, and was barred from the work site.

“I had to sit in the truck all day and ended up not getting paid,” he remembers. “You don’t work, you don’t get paid.”

A few years later, after Gough had finished his education and was working as an operator, and found himself on the other side of the transaction, checking other workers’ certifications when they came to the job site.

“I became the guy who had to send people home who didn’t have their certifications with them,” he explains, adding that workers forgetting to carry their tickets are commonplace in the industry.

Gough thought to himself there has to be a better way to handle the issue.

So he launched GoSnap Safety Ltd., with its first product a new app for managing digital certification in the workplace. The app allows workers to create digital versions of their safety tickets so they are never without them.

“Everyone has their phone on them, so it makes it so they never forget their ticket.” he explains.

The GoSnap app is available free for download for both Apple and Android devices.

Gough has patent pending status for the app is currently working with certification organizations to get all tickets and certifications verified on the app. Once that happens he says carrying paper tickets, and forgetting them, will be a thing of the past.

“They won’t ever have to have a paper copy of a ticket again,” he explains. “They will be able to log-in and have all the information once they pass their course. They will just give their identification number and all the information about them will come up. But we’re at the early stages of that.”
